If you're super active and want a dog to complement that, look at high energy dogs like collie, kelpie, cattledog, staffy, jack Russell, etc. If you aren't active go for less active dogs, or toy breeds. You just do your research. Do you have a big yard for bigger breeds or a small yard suitable for smaller breeds? Is it secure? Also pets are expensive so do a comprehensive budget factoring in pet insurance, registration, vaccinations, vet bills, food, toys, bedding, enrichment activities, obedience training and just know there is a high chance these toys and bedding will be destroyed and have to be replaced dozens of times lol. I have a kelpie x staffy and he is 3 now, we invested heavily in his training in his first year and now he is a joy to have in life, obedient, dorky, sooky, derpy and so so smart! But even he destroyed a few things as a puppy.
