I’ve never been an animal lover, nor do I own pets
I’ve never been an animal lover, nor do I own pets, but I do think there’s something mentally depraved about a person who buys a pet and then knowingly abandons it. I feel that pet ownership is often treated as a right rather than a privilege, and even in the most developed countries, pet ownership is poorly regulated at best. I see pet owners in the news who argue over their right to keep a dog. They speak of pet ownership in the same way they speak of gun ownership, to the point where the pet being a living thing is just an arbitrary afterthought at best. This is how pets get abandoned and owners face no charges, and how behaviours like dangerous dog ownership (the pit mom crowd) and animal hoarders get a free pass in society. The law still continues to treat animal ownership as a form of inanimate property possession.
